State awards $42,000 to Warner to replace broken oil burner

WARNER - A state finance authority has awarded a $42,000 grant to the town of Warner to replace a broken oil burner in the Old Graded School building, the agency announced.

The building houses organizations that provides services to the town's low- and moderate-income populations, according to the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority.

Those tenants include the fuel assistance, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, and food pantry programs run by the Community Action Program of Belknap-Merrimack Counties; the Warner Cooperative Pre-School and a community seniors room.

The funds, which come from the federal government, are a Community Development Block Grant.

The grant must be approved by the state Executive Council before it can be released.

"The building would likely be shut down if a new heating system could not be obtained, and the important community services provided by its tenants would be interrupted," said Kevin Flynn, spokesman for the Finance Authority. "This grant will pay for a new boiler without adding an undue burden on the property owners of Warner."

Currently, rooms in the building are being spot heated with electric and kerosene heaters.
