Concord mother, acquaintance charged with beating, burning her son

CONCORD - A 52-year-old mother and a 20-year-old man are being arraigned in 6th Circuit Court, Concord District Division, Thursday morning for abusing the woman's 18-year-old son.

Police issued a release this morning saying Christine Gelineau, 52, of Modena Drive, Concord, and Daniel Tyler Cantrell, 20, of Sparta, Tenn., described as a family acquaintance, were abusing her son, with police saying they burned his genitals and chest area with a lighter and inflicted several beatings, one of which resulted in a broken leg.
Gelineau is being charged with simple assault, second-degree assault, criminal restraint and tampering with witnesses and informants. The simple assault charge is a class A misdemeanor, and the other charges are all class B felonies.
Cantrell is being charged with five counts of second-degree assault, as well as one count each of conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, criminal restraint, and tampering with witnesses and informants, all class B felonies. He is also charged with two counts of simple assault, class A misdemeanors.
Lt. Timothy O'Malley said Concord Police were notified Monday by the Division of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) about the alleged abuse and discovered numerous injuries on the teen, including burns, abrasions, and possible fractured bones. The victim was brought to Concord Hospital for treatment.
The investigation culminated late Wednesday evening, and detectives with the assistance of the N.H. State Police arrested both Gelineau and Cantrell.
Police said all of the assaults took place between March 10 and April 14 at the Modena Drive home.
Cantrell was held on $50,000 cash bail, and Gelineau was held on $25,000 cash bail.
