Mass. man identified as victim in fatal Jaffrey crash
JAFFREY - The passenger who died in a fiery crash on Route 202 Sunday has been identified as Peter Melville, 19, of Dedham, Mass.
"The cause of death as ruled by the Medical Examiner's Office was blunt-force trauma," Jaffrey police said in an email Wednesday.
Early Sunday morning, a northbound Honda Accord on Route 202 (River Street) near Red Dam crossed the center line and crashed into the woods, according to police.
The car landed on its roof and caught fire. Passing motorists pulled one of the occupants from the burning wreck and called 911.
Police identified the driver of the Honda as Franklin Pierce University freshman Edgard Henriquez, 19, who is originally from Dedham, Mass. He was hospitalized and subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated DWI and negligent homicide.
He and another passenger, Tyler Tobin, 18, of Dedham, Mass., were taken to Monadnock Community Hospital for treatment.
Tobin was treated and released. Henriquez was transferred to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., Sunday morning, according to Laura Gingras, vice president of community relations at the hospital.
Henriquez was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail. He is due back in 8th Circuit Court, Jaffrey District Division, June 6 for arraignment.
On Tuesday, Henriquez was listed in stable condition at UMass Medical Center.
