NHIAA Roundup: Londonderry nine tips Pinkerton

Ryan Moloney hit a two-run single that gave the Londonderry High School baseball team a two-run lead in the fifth innning and the Lancers held on to defeat rival Pinkerton Academy 4-3 Saturday in Derry.

Pinkerton led 2-0 after one inning, but Maloney's hit gave Londonderry a 4-2 advantage.

Londonderry starting pitcher Robbie Del Signor struck out six in five innings to earn the win. Pinkerton made it a 4-3 game by scoring once in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on first when the game ended.

"We just couldn't get that timely hit when we needed it," first-year Pinkerton coach Steve Campo said.

Mike Ryan had two hits for the Lancers, who raised their Division I record to 2-1. Nate Rossi and Connor Donahue each collected two hits for Pinkerton, which dropped to 1-1.

Donahue pitched a complete game and struck out five.

Trinity 6, Salem 2: At Salem, Carmen Giampetruzzi pitched a complete game, struck out 14 and held the Blue Devils to three hits to help Trinity raise its Division I record to 2-1. Zack Sczcechowicz collected two hits and two RBIs for the Pioneers, who had 12 hits in the game. Trinity's Connor Walsh (three hits), Alex Currier (two hits) and Ryan Boldwin (two hits, solo home run) also had strong performances at the plate. First baseman Dan Morin had two of Salem's three hits. The Blue Devils dropped to 1-1.



Girls' Lacrosse



Portsmouth 17, Pinkerton 12: At Derry, Emily Whitney scored seven goals to help the Division II Clippers improve their record to 2-1 with this non-league victory. Kennedy Daziel led Division I Pinkerton (1-1) with four goals.

Nashua North 17, Memorial 4: At Manchester, Jexi Williams scored five goals and Alyssa Bottari and Kara Upton each had three as North evened its Division I record at 1-1. North's Sierra Mullin (eight saves) and Jena Corkup (three saves) each played a half in goal. Memorial slipped to 0-2 with the loss.

Marshwood 12, Hollis/Brookline 4: At South Berwick, Maine, Regan Burns scored three goals, but the Cavaliers were overmatched in this non-league game against one of the top teams in Maine. Hollis/Brookline dropped to 1-2 with the loss.



Boys' Lacrosse



Derryfield 15, Kearsarge 2: At Manchester, Matt Milne and Grant Alenson each scored five goals as Derryfield improved its Division III record to 3-0. Will Auflank made 11 saves for Kearsarge, which fell to 2-1.

Bedford 11, Exeter 10: At Exeter, the Bulldogs, last year's Division II champions, scored the final two goals and knocked off Division I Exeter in a non-league contest. Bedford improved its record to 2-0. Exeter, which opended its season with an 11-8 loss to Bishop Guertin, dropped to 0-2.

Junior attackman Dan Colella scored Bedford's final three goals, including what turned out to be the game-winning goal with 2:28 to play. Dave Phelps led the Bulldogs with four goals.
