Fisher Cats shut down Mets

Strong pitching performances from Ryan Tepera and Fernando Hernandez propelled the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 6-1 road victory over the Binghamton Mets on Saturday afternoon.

Tepera (2-0) held Binghamton to one run on three hits in six innings and earned the win. He struck out four and walked two. Hernandez surrendered two hits in three scoreless innings of relief.

First baseman Clint Robinson had two of New Hampshire's seven hits, and catcher Jack Murphy drove in two runs.

The Fisher Cats, who scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, improved their record to 6-4 with the victory. Binghamton fell to 5-4.

Binghamton starting pitcher Erik Goeddel (1-1) held New Hampshire to two runs on one hit in 4 1/3 innings, but took the loss.

The Fisher Cats drew three consecutive walks with the bases loaded in the sixth to increase their lead to 5-1. New Hampshire capped the scoring in the ninth, when Kevin Pillar extended his hitting streak to eight games with an infield single. Kenny Wilson scored from second on the play.

The teams will meet again Sunday afternoon (1:05 p.m.). New Hampshire's Austin Bibens-Dirkx (1-1, 0.69) and Binghamton's Rafael Montero (1-0, 1.54) are the scheduled starters.
