NH College Roundup: SNHU baseball team tames FPU

Junior Mendez pitched eight strong innings to help Southern New Hampshire University defeat No. 19 Franklin Pierce University, 4-1, Wednesday in a Northeast-10 baseball game at Pappas Field.

Mendez surrendered seven hits, struck out five and walked one. He raised his record to 6-1. Alex Powers posted his fifth save by retiring the side on nine pitches in the bottom of the ninth. Andy Lalli led SNHU with a pair of hits.

Salem State 6, Plymouth State 2: At Salem, Mass., senior Ryan Sharp held the Panthers to six innings in seven innings as Plymouth State fell to 12-9. Dave Tommaro had an RBI single for Plymouth State.

Softball

SNHU 8/3, Saint Michael's 0/0: At Manchester, SNHU stretched its winning streak to six games by sweeping a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. The Penmen improved to 15-8 overall and 8-3 in league play. The Purple Knights are 0-24 and 0-13 in the conference.

Boston College 19, Dartmouth 6: At Hanover, BC scored in every inning and cruised to victory in the first half of a doubleheader. Kristen Rumley led the Dartmouth offense with three hits. The second game was called after three innings because of darkness.

Plymouth State 9/5, Lyndon State 1/1: At Plymouth, Nashua's Bekah Jackson went 5-for-8 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs to help the Panthers sweep a non-conference doubleheader. The two wins give PSU a 15-10 record this season. Lyndon State dropped to 6-12.

Women's lacrosse

Boston College 10, UNH 9: At Durham, UNH goaltender Kathleen O'Keefe recorded 12 saves, but 19th-ranked Boston College posted an overtime victory in a non-conference game at Memorial Field. UNH is now 4-8 overall with three one-goal losses to nationally-ranked teams. Jenny Simpson (three goals) and Kayleigh Hinkle (three assists) led the UNH offense.

Men's lacrosse

Rivier 14, Daniel Webster 5: At Nashua, Rivier scored eight unanswered fourth-quarter goals to post the program's first victory over Daniel Webster in a matchup of intracity and Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents at Eagle Field.
