McGuire pitches Fisher Cats to win

Deck McGuire threw a two-hitter over seven innings to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 3-1 Eastern League victory over host Binghamton at NYSEG Stadium Thursday. The Fisher Cats (5-3) jumped a half-game in front of the Mets (4-3) and Reading (4-3) for first place in the Eastern Division.

Kevin Pillar, Clint Robinson and Adam Loewen each had two hits to pace New Hampshire's 10-hit attack. Loewen had a solo homer in the seventh inning and Pillar added a two-run shot in the eighth inning. It was the first homer of the season for both players.

McGuire (1-1) threw 80 pitches, 55 for strikes. He walked one and fanned five. Fernando Hernandez pitched a scoreless eighth and Chad Beck earned his third season save. The teams play again tonight at 6:25.
