Hour of silence

Fisk School students strike a pose for heroes past and present

SALEM -- After spending an entire month researching beloved historic figures and perfecting their costumes, second-graders at Fisk School were up to one final challenge Friday morning: staying silent for an entire hour.

Dressed as their respective characters, the 34 youngsters were locked in their poses for the third annual Biography Wax Museum.

"They're celebrating their learning with everyone," teacher Chelsea Ford said. "The kids have been very busy during the month of March with their biography projects and now they've created life-sized portraits of their chosen people."

Those stopping by on Friday were treated to close encounters with many familiar figures, both living and dead, including Rosa Parks, Michelle Obama, Harry Houdini, Florence Nightingale, Pocahontas, Babe Ruth, Helen Keller and Paul Revere.
