NH College Roundup: Mathieu lifts FPU over Hawks
Former Pinkerton Academy standout Zach Mathieu collected three hits to highlight Franklin Pierce's 9-2 victory over St. Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference baseball game Tuesday. Junior Ryan Leach tossed three shutout innings of relief to collect the win.
The victory extended Franklin Pierce's winning streak to seven games. The Ravens, ranked 30th nationally, are 17-9 overall and 7-0 in the Northeast-10.
St. Anselm dropped to 8-14-1 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast-10.
Southern New Hampshire 7, St. Michael's 2: At Manchester, Franklin's Derrick Sylvester tossed seven shutouts innings to help No. 13 Southern New Hampshire improve its record to 18-6 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast-10. Sylvester allowed two hits and struck out seven to improve his record to 3-0.
Jon Minucci hit a three-run home run - his fifth of the season - to highlight a five-run third inning. Minucci has 18 career home runs, one shy of the program record set by Portsmouth's Jeff Weakes (1995-98).
Trinity 5, Keene State 3: At Hartford, Conn., Dover's Ian Seawards collected three hits and two RBIs, but Keene State lost for the sixth time in seven games and fell to 6-13 overall. Concord's Eddie Dionne, a freshman, started and took the loss for the Owls. He gave up five runs on five hits in five innings. Dionne struck out four and walked four.
Anna Maria 12, Daniel Webster 8: At Nashua, Anthoni Cotini provided much of the Daniel Webster offense by scoring four goals, but the Eagles fell to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Brookline's Sean Hamilton added two goals and two assists for Daniel Webster.
Keene State 13, Colby-Sawyer 1: Junior Eliza Witherbee scored four goals and assisted on two others to help the Owls raise their record to 3-5 with this non-league victory. Bradford's Laurel Bauer scored the only goal for Colby-Sawyer, which dropped to 2-5.
