Parking fight leads to arrest of Salem man

SALEM - A man was arrested after he threatened officers investigating his neighbor's complaint that he parked his vehicle directly behind hers, preventing her from leaving a Main Street apartment building.

Police said Keith Butzien, 27, moved his car but only after he greeted officers with a profanity-laced tirade. As police were leaving the 307 Main St. residence, they noticed him "flipping them the bird" from his apartment window and yelling something.

Six minutes later, the neighbor called police to report Butzien again had blocked her car.

Butzien, police were told, also shouted "Have a nice day pig" at the officers as they were leaving. Police again went to Butzien's apartment and was met by a "volatile, aggressive" Butzien yelling profanities, according to a news release. "I know your name and number, and I will see you on the street," Butzien allegedly threatened.

Officers told Butzien he was under arrest, and police said he immediately began "hostile actions toward the officers, who were able to quickly take him into custody."

He was charged with criminal threatening, resisting arrest and two counts of disorderly conduct.

Police said when Butzien threatened them, they heard a small child crying inside the apartment. One of the officers stayed with the child until care could be arranged.

Butzien's car also was moved so the neighbor could leave.

Butzien was later released on $500 cash bail pending arraignment.
