Man attacked with pipe on Manchester street says two asked for help finding lost dog

MANCHESTER – A 63-year-old man who had just parked his car and was on Silver Street near Maple Street was attacked by two men carrying a lost-dog poster Thursday morning.
Police said the man was asked by the two if he had seen the dog, when one of them suddenly struck the man in the face. After he was knocked to the ground, the man said the two struck him several more times in the back of the head with a blunt object. Police later recovered a pipe near the scene in a parking lot on Maple Street.
The men ripped a Rite Aid bag containing a prescription for Oxycodone from the man's hands. One of the men grabbed the bottle and the two took off north on Maple Street, according to police.
Manchester Police Lt. Maureen Tessier said the victim suffered a serious head injury after he was attacked with the pipe.
Officer Chris Biron and K-9 Colt tracked the men, and headed north on Maple Street and east on Prescott Street to the dead-end bordered by a fence line encompassing the rear of a Lincoln Street business. Clothing located in that area was recovered as evidence since its appearance was consistent with the initial description of the suspects provided by witnesses.
An employee at the business reported seeing two men pass through the same area not long before. The two were last seen headed north on Lincoln Street toward Hayward Street.
The first man was described as a white male in his mid to late 20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a light blue, hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. The second man was also white, in his mid to late 20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was clean-shaven with acne on his face and was last seen wearing a white sweatshirt with black graphics, a black baseball cap and dark jeans.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Elliot Hospital where he was treated for a serious laceration to his head.
