NASHUA - Police are searching for a man who robbed a downtown pharmacy at gunpoint early Monday morning while demanding prescription drugs.

Authorities say a man wearing a mask and displaying a gun walked into the CVS pharmacy at 242 Main St. around 5:45 a.m.

"He was armed with a firearm, walked to the pharmacy area and demanded that they give him controlled drugs," said Lt. Michael Moushegian of the Nashua Police Department. "He was able to obtain a quantity of drugs."

Moushegian said the masked man asked for specific drugs by name, but police would not elaborate on what type of medications the robber was seeking. The gun was never fired, and no one was injured during the robbery, said police.

Moushegian said he was unsure whether any customers were inside the all-night pharmacy at the time of the incident, but there were several employees who were present.

The gunman is believed to have fled the area on foot after obtaining the drugs, and a canine unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation and track any potential scents. The store was temporarily evacuated to allow authorities to secure the crime scene and process the evidence, including dusting for fingerprints, said Moushegian.

Aside from displaying the weapon and demanding drugs, Moushegian said authorities are still investigating the circumstances and trying to determine whether any personal threats were made to employees. He stressed that no one was injured during the robbery.

"We interviewed a few people and are continuing to investigate," he said. Police remained on scene until about 10 a.m. Monday, and the store planned to reopen.

Authorities said they are not prepared to release a description of the alleged robber or seek the public's help at this time. Moushegian would not comment on whether any video surveillance from the pharmacy or nearby businesses was being utilized to help identify or apprehend the gunman.

"It is a pretty active investigation right now, and I don't want to put anything else out there," Moushegian said Monday afternoon.
