Manchester men charged in stolen-check case

MANCHESTER — Two young men are under arrest after one of them tried to cash a stolen check that the other forged, police said.
About 4:30 p.m. Monday, police received a report of someone trying to cash a stolen check at Citizens Bank, 875 Elm St.
Officers detained Tyler Tessier, 20, of 25 Laval St., whom they found with a business check for "Looking Good Painting," one of several checks reportedly stolen from a parked car. Police said the check was written out to Tessier and forged by Tyler Murray, 18, of 393 Merrimack St., in the name of Dean Vincent, the owner of the business.
Murray gave the check to Tessier to cash with the promise of a small share of the funds, according to investigators.
Officers located Murray at a Laval Street residence and arrested him after Murray tried to close the door on Officer Justin Maguire, striking him in the shoulder.
Murray gave up when officers warned they were going to use a stun gun on him, police said.
Tessier is charged with receiving stolen property.
Murray was arrested for forgery, simple assault and resisting arrest, and on a warrant for attempted identity fraud. He is also charged with forgery and receiving stolen property in connection with another forged business check from the same company that was cashed for $250 on St. Patrick's Day at Joseph Brothers Market, 196 Lake Ave.
Police continue to investigate to determine if other checks were illegally cashed.

Murray was arraigned Tuesday in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District Division, on two felony forgery charges, one felony attempted ID fraud charge and misdemeanors of simple assault, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash/surety, with conditions barring Murray from Joseph Brothers, Rite-Aid, Planet Fitness and Citizens Bank and barring him from contact with the painting company owner, the Joseph Brothers owner, and a woman whose stolen identification and credit and debit cards Murray allegedly used to try and purchase an Android tablet at Rite-Aid on McGregor Street.

No plea can be entered to a felony charge in circuit court, so probable cause hearings on the felonies were set for April 3. Trial on the misdemeanors was set for April 23.
