EXETER - Route 101 westbound was shut down for about 45 minutes this morning after an accident closed the road near Exit 10 shortly after 11 a.m.
State Police in a press release issued this afternoon said a 2005 Toyota Corolla operated by Ruth Charland, 66, of Raymond, was heading eastbound on Route 101 when another vehicle entered her lane.
Charland swerved to avoid the other vehicle, according to state police, and lost control of her vehicle, crossing the center median, and ending up on the westbound side of the highway after rolling over.
Charland was ejected from her vehicle as a result of the crash. She was taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
The second vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, was operated by Katherine Scott, 24, of Epping, according to police. Scott and her two children were taken to Exeter Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Any witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have more information is asked to contact Trooper Thomas Conlon at 223-8490 or by email at Thomas.Conlon@dos.nh.gov.
Traffic was re-routed off Exit 10 after the crash. Assisting at the crash scene were members of the Exeter Fire and Rescue and Exeter Police Department.
