Mass. woman sentenced for nearly hitting police officer
Sabrina Tofsky, 30, of Stoneham, Mass., pleaded guilty to felony reckless conduct, disobeying a police officer and resisting arrest. She began serving her jail sentence on Friday following her guilty plea in Rockingham County Superior Court.
The 60-day jail term was part of a 12-month sentence that will be suspended so long as Tofsky remains on good behavior for the next two years, according to court records. Her run-in with police happened on the night of July 20 around 10:30 p.m. when Officer Steve McPherson of the Salem Police Department was on patrol and saw two vehicles in the parking lot of Movie Scene and Devanti's Pizza.
Both businesses were closed at the time.
McPherson pulled in and spoke to one of the drivers, confirming he was an employee of the pizza shop. Tofsky took off toward the plaza exit once she was questioned by McPherson. She exited on the wrong side of a traffic island, police said.
McPherson caught up to the vehicle and told Tofsky to pull over.
Tofsky allegedly responded, "No! Leave me the (expletive) alone," according to police.
Police said Tofsky then accelerated her car, spinning her tires and driving south on Route 28. McPherson followed her down Route 28 where Officer Justin Bagley was out of his cruiser, signaling Tofsky to pull over.
She turned her car towards Bageley, who was on foot, and drove through the intersection narrowly missing the officer, prosecutors said.
Bageley had to leap out of the way to avoid being struck.
Tofsky was forced to pull over on Route 28 near Bemister's Pools and had to be physically removed from the car, police said.
