OSSIPEE - A 49-year-old Berlin man has been indicted on charges he stole checks from several victims, including a church, forged the signatures, then cashed checks totaling more than $8,000.

A Carroll County Superior Court grand jury handed up 10 counts against Paul Nobile after its February session. The indictments were made public Tuesday.

Nobile faces five counts of felony-level forgery, four counts of felony-level theft by unauthorized taking, and one count of criminal mischief (a misdemeanor) for allegedly damaging a file cabinet in the office of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hart's Location.

The alleged forged checks were written in the amounts of $1,400, one for $1,000 written from a stolen Citizens Bank account, another two checks totaling $2,650 were stolen from a third male victim; one for $1,450 from another male victim.

The count involving the church alleges that he stole $1,450 from the church by forging a check made out to his name, then cashed it at Walmart.

The arraignment date for all new indictments is March 13 at 8:45 a.m. at Carroll County Superior Court in Ossipee.
