This week's Rare Bird Alert

This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, Feb. 26.

An immature red-headed woodpecker has been coming to a birdfeeder on Grafton Road in Alexandria since Dec. 13, and was last reported on Feb. 26.

A male Barrow's goldeneye and two long-tailed ducks were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on Feb. 24.

A lesser black-backed gull was seen on South Road in East Kingston on Feb. 23.

An Iceland gull was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on Feb. 22, and one was seen in Field's Grove in Nashua on the 25th.

A northern shrike was seen in Wolfboro on Feb. 24, and one was seen in Lyme on the 23rd.

A rough-legged hawk, 450 snow buntings and 200 horned larks were reported from Charlestown on Feb. 26.

Flocks of horned larks were reported from Walpole, Nashua and Concord during the past week.

Four pine grosbeaks were seen feeding on the crabapple trees in front of the Daniel Webster College Aviation Center in Nashua on Feb. 20, and a flock of six pine grosbeaks was seen on Clinton Street in Concord on Feb. 26.

Common redpoll sightings during the past week included a flock of 18 in Alexandria, a flock of 70 in Hampton, a flock of 65 in Westmoreland, and flocks of 50 and 20 in Milan.

A black-backed woodpecker was reported from on the Bridle Path Trail, just below Middle Falls in Bretton Woods in Crawford Notch, on Feb. 20.

A brant, two northern gannets, eight razorbills and two black guillemots were reported from the coast on Feb. 23.

Two pairs of gadwall continue to be seen at Field's Grove in Nashua and were last reported on Feb. 23, and a northern pintail was seen again in Salem on Feb. 20.

An American coot was seen in Wolfeboro Bay in Lake Winnipesaukee on Feb. 21.

A pine warbler and a rusty blackbird were reported from Kensington on Feb. 25, and a flock of five rusty blackbirds was reported from Charlestown on the 26th.

A merlin was seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on Feb. 23 and 25, and one was seen in Greenland on the 23rd.

Four peregrine falcons were reported from Nashua on Feb. 22, and one was seen in Hampton on the 23rd.

A red-shouldered hawk was reported from Salem on Feb. 25.

Turkey vulture sightings during the past week included 16 in Exeter on Feb. 21, and one in Salem on the 20th.

A ruby-crowned kinglet, a yellow-rumped warbler, and an eastern towhee were seen in Greenland on Feb. 22, and a fox sparrow was seen in Stratham on the 26th.

A hermit thrush was reported from Henniker on Feb. 25.

Eleven eastern bluebirds were reported from Iron Works Road in Concord on Feb. 20.

There were several sightings of small flocks of red-winged blackbirds during the past week.
