SALEM - A popular radio personality will lead next month's charity auction at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem.
WZID Radio's Mike Morin, co-host of the popular New Hampshire in the Morning radio show, will serve as celebrity auctioneer during the 23rd annual auction on March 23.
A former television weatherman, Morin has spent 42 years as a radio personality and has written for various magazines and newspapers. His new book, "Fifty Shades of Radio," is being released this month, and he's contributed essays for several of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books.
This year's auction theme is "La Dolce Vita," Italian for "The Sweet Life."
With that in mind, the event will feature a gourmet Italian dinner courtesy of The Tuscan Kitchen.
Development director Denise Dolloff said this year's auction items truly offer something for everyone, with items including Disney passes, Red Sox tickets, dining packages, VIP experiences, vacation packages and sports memorabilia.
Proceeds from the event will assist the local children's organization with future programs.
Dolloff said local sponsors Citizens Bank and Salem Cooperative Bank helped make this year's auction a reality.
"They both provide significant support for all the programs we offer," Dolloff said.
Founded in 1967, the local Boys & Girls Club offers a safe, nurturing environment for children from Salem and surrounding towns to enjoy activities after school and during school vacations.
"These programs are fun and also provide good character," Dolloff said.
The March 23 event will begin with a silent auction at 5 p.m., followed by a 7:15 p.m. dinner. Bidding on the live auction commences at 8 p.m.
Reservations for the auction are now being accepted. Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased online at www.salembgc.org or by calling Dolloff at 898-7709, ext. 16.
