Keene Sentinel: It’s Dec. 21, 2012 – but don’t go selling your house just yet

In 1847, The Sentinel carried a news report credited to the Boston Mail about Ezekiel Hale of Haverill, Mass., who was suing his son to recover $40,000 to $50,000 worth of belongings the older man had given his son when he believed the world would end. “The old gentleman has since recovered his ‘right mind’ — the anticipated ‘burst up’ of all things earthly not coming to pass as old Miller predicted — and he now seeks to regain possession of the property,” the report read. It is unclear who won the case.
