Working couple grateful for help from Christmas Fund

Kerri and Frank Smith (not their real names) both work full time, but still struggle to pay their mortgage and household expenses each month.

With four young children to support, utility bills to pay and a lengthy grocery list, there’s not much left over to put gifts under the tree this year.

Like many area families, they’ve fallen through the cracks many times since they don’t qualify for programs like heating assistance or food stamps.

But thanks to the Salem Christmas Fund, the coming holiday will still be a happy affair for the family of six.

“We have so much to be thankful for this year,” Kerri said. “And we’re so thankful for the Christmas Fund helping people like us: people who are working but still have hard time making ends meet.”

For nearly four decades, the Salem Christmas Fund has reached out to needy families, providing them with holiday gifts, clothing vouchers and food baskets to make the season a bit brighter.
Donations come from area businesses and individuals, with 100 percent of the proceeds to assist families right here in Salem. The charity assists several hundred needy households each year.

Those wishing to help out their neighbors this holiday season are urged to donate to the Salem Christmas Fund.
Checks may be sent to The Salem Christmas Fund Inc., P.O. Box 1234, Salem, NH 03079.
