John Harrigan, whose "Woods, Water and Wildlife" column has been a feature of in the New Hampshire Sunday News for 38 years, will be a featured co-host on "New Hampshire Today" with Jack Heath every Friday afternoon in the 4:25-4:55 time slot.

Harrigan will preview his weekend column, which runs Sundays on Page A2.

In addition to being heard on The Pulse and Upper Valley, Harrigan's 30-minute segment can be heard online worldwide at wtplfm.com live.

"New Hampshire Today" airs daily from 2 to 5 p.m. on WTPL-107.7 FM and WTSL AM and FM and is the state's only live radio afternoon news and talk show.

In his segment, Harrigan will field live listener calls and discuss daily topics as well as offer the candid and entertaining commentary he is known for when describing outdoor life and people in New Hampshire.

During his 44 years of newspapering, Harrigan has also done radio and television, most notably his regular appearance on New Hampshire Public Television's "Roundtable," and for several years as a regular Friday afternoon commentator on New Hampshire Public Radio with host Martin Murray.

Harrigan also writes his "North Country Notebook" column for the 12 weekly Meredith-based Salmon Press newspapers and Colebrook's News and Sentinel, covering the northern two-thirds of the state. He'll share the microphone from his farmhouse kitchen in Colebrook.

"I enjoy doing radio almost as much as I love print," Harrigan said. "Jack Heath's a great guy to work with, and I really enjoy the give-and-take with the listeners who call in. People are hungry for the personal touch that's missing from so many other parts of today's life, and I think call-in talk shows can help fill that void.

"The guys at WTPL are a fun bunch," Harrigan added, "serious when it counts but always ready for the light side. The scene at the station itself is so off-beat and entertaining that I might just make the three-hour drive to Concord every now and then to do the show from there."
