BRENTWOOD - Prosecutors say they have DNA evidence and can tie a vehicle to a recent kidnapping in Windham, where three men dressed all in black allegedly stormed into a 20-year-old woman's home and tied her up at gunpoint.

Only one of the suspects, Luis Carvalho, 32, of Taunton, Mass., was indicted in the case two months ago in Rockingham County Superior Court.

Prosecutors say two other men who accompanied Carvalho remain at large.

Affidavits and other court motions recently made public in superior court detail some of the evidence against Carvalho and what led to his arrest in the early morning hours of April 15.

He is scheduled for trial the week of Jan. 28 on charges of kidnapping, burglary, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a weapon and false imprisonment.

Windham police received a call from the woman at about 12:27 a.m., "stating someone is banging on her door," according to the affidavit. "The woman mentioned a gun and was subsequently involved in a struggle. The woman stopped responding and the line eventually went dead," police said in the affidavit. "She later informed officers the phone was physically removed from her hand."

When police arrived at the home on Glance Road, they spotted a man dressed in all black run out of the front door toward the back yard. A police officer chased the man, who fled on foot and saw a blue GMC Yukon speed away from the home with no lights on, police said. Another police officer followed the truck and attempted to stop it before it crashed into a wooded area off of Romans Road.

The truck crashed while attempting a U-turn, police said. The driver fled on foot and set off a search by police from Pelham, Salem, Hudson and New Hampshire State Police. A Windham and Salem police officer apprehended Carvalho in the woods "dressed in all black" with the help of a police dog, according to the affidavit.

The truck was registered to a Mansfield, Mass., woman whose father told police "that he believed Luis Carvalho was driving the GMC Yukon," police said.

Prosecutors also recently acknowledged in court papers that investigators collected DNA from the crime scene that matches Carvalho. What prompted the alleged attack has not been disclosed. The woman told police she was forced to the floor at gunpoint and restrained with zip ties by the men. Prosecutors say Carvalho was in possession of a 12-gauge Remington shotgun when he was arrested.
