Bail set at $100,000 for man charged in rape of Weare teen

WEARE - A Massachusetts man will remain behind bars on $100,000 cash bail until his next court hearing after being arrested in the Bay State and extradited to New Hampshire Tuesday to face charges stemming from the alleged rape of a 17-year-old woman.

Jonathan Maguire, 22, of Pandora Drive in Groveland, Mass., is accused of aggravated felonious sexual assault, felony second degree assault, misdemeanor counts of simple assault, obstructing report of a crime, criminal mischief, attempt to commit sexual assault and theft after allegedly assaulting and raping a woman at his parent's summer home in Weare on the evening of Oct. 30.

According to court documents, the young woman was with Maguire at 114 Old Town Road when Maguire physically overcame her, choked her until she lost consciousness and then raped her.

Weare Officer Brandon Montplasir said the case is still under investigation and it's unclear why the alleged victim went to Maguire's house, though it appears she knew Maguire through friends.

Maguire was charged with obstructing the report of a crime when he took a cell phone from another woman at the home, Lisbeth Maguire, who was trying to call for police, and broke it, according to court documents.

Montplasir would not say how Lisbeth Maguire was related to the suspect or what she was doing at the house, stating it was still under investigation. Maguire also broke a window at the house before fleeing in the victim's vehicle, according to court documents.

Police from New Hampshire and Massachusetts, along with the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, launched a search for Maguire, who was considered armed and dangerous, and were able to track him down in Haverhill, Mass., on Thursday, Nov. 1.

He was arrested, held over the weekend, and then brought to New Hampshire on Tuesday for arraignment at the Goffstown District Court.

Maguire was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail at the Valley Street Jail in Manchester until his probable cause hearing at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, Montplasir said.
