Fosters: New Hampshire’s ‘gouging tax’ on wines

In spite of its reputation as a low-priced spirits mecca, there are in fact dozens of major wine brands with regular retail prices 10% to 30% higher in New Hampshire than in Massachusetts. If we wanted to consider these annoying little price bumps as a form of taxation, we could call it a “gouging tax”. Why should any wines be overpriced here, relative to other markets?
