Hooksett firefighters ship food, water to Hurricane Sandy victims

HOOKSETT - The fire department's food drive Sunday for emergency workers and residents in New Jersey and New York filled a fire truck with non-perishable food and a dump truck with bottled water.

While their own town fared relatively well under Hurricane Sandy's fury earlier in the week, millions remain without power in New York and New Jersey, and tens of thousands are in shelters.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted over the weekend that with the temperature dropping, up to 40,000 people in the city alone may soon be in need of government shelter.

According to a Fire Department employee, firefighters including union president Tobey Gamache were en route to New Jersey Monday morning to deliver the goods.
