Two Lebanon burglaries using a car to smash doors tied to two in Vermont

Surveillance footage released by Lebanon police showing the man wanted in connection with a robbery of Pearce Jewelers Monday morning.

LEBANON — A burglar who drove his car into a door to break into Bear Hollow Vintage Guitars earlier this month and steal three guitars worth $15,000 appears to have struck again.

Police said at 4 a.m. Monday, a man driving a silver or gray Volkswagen Jetta with no front plate drove into the front glass door at Pearce Jewelers on Glen Road.

He smashed a glass display case with a hammer, shattering the glass, and then stole all the jewelry, valued at between $4,000 and $6,000, according to Lt. Phil Roberts.

Investigators believe the man is responsible for not only the Bear Hollow and Pearce Jewelers burglaries, but two others in Vermont.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying him and released photographs taken in burglaries in both New Hampshire and Vermont.

Roberts said a Stowe, Vt., restaurant and a Quechee, Vt., Jiffy Mart Convenience store were broken into last month in identical fashion.

In the Stowe case, Roberts said the same Volkswagen Jetta was used to break open the door. Taken from the restaurant were credit cards which were later used at Walmart in Concord, where the same Volkswagen Jetta was recorded on surveillance video, according to Roberts.

And, he said, one of the stolen credit cards also was used at a gas station next to Bear Hollow Vintage Guitars, which was burglarized Oct. 3.

Roberts said he viewed surveillance video of the car hitting Pearson's front glass door. The car, he said, moves slowly and appears to just nudge the door, enough to shatter the glass.

The guitar store also had a glass front door, he said, but he did not know if the Stowe restaurant did. The Jiffy Mart had two front glass doors, and both were shattered.

Anyone who recognizes the man or the vehicle recorded on video surveillance is asked to call police at 448-1212.
