NASHUA — BAE Systems Inc. has named Dan Gobel as president of its Electronic Systems sector.

Gobel succeeds Tom Arseneault, who recently was named executive vice president for Product Sectors and chief technology officer for BAE Systems Inc.

Gobel previously served as vice president and deputy general manager of the Electronic Systems sector.

“Dan is a well-respected leader with a deep understanding of both the commercial and defense electronics markets,” Linda Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems Inc., said in a statement.

BAE said Gobel played a leadership role in advanced platform electronic warfare systems, including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, serving as Joint Strike Fighter electronic warfare vice president for BAE Systems.

He served as president of the former Platform Solutions, which combined with the former Electronic Solutions business in 2011 to create Electronic Systems.

Electronics Systems, which is headquartered in Nashua, has about 4,500 employees locally and a total of about 12,000 division-wide. It is one of the state’s largest private employers, with facilities in Manchester, Hudson, Merrimack and Nashua.

BAE’s Electronic Systems sector serves commercial and defense electronics markets with mission critical electronic systems from flight and engine controls to electronic warfare and night vision systems. Its products include surveillance and reconnaissance sensors, mobile networked communications equipment and energy management systems.
