Peterborough potter's work 'best in show' at Sunapee
PETERBOROUGH — Lulu Fichter of Peterborough won top honors at this year's League of NH Craftsmen's Fair at Mount Sunapee in August.
Judges named Fichter's porcelain sculpture series, Fossil Dream Sequence #56, Best in Show. The entry, a series of five pieces, was displayed in the Living with Crafts exhibit, a room styled solely with furniture, textiles, pottery and other decorative and functional items handcrafted by artists exhibiting at the fair.
Fichter also won two other awards: best in mixed media for a piece of jewelry made by Hanover artist, Paulette Werger. Werger's piece included porcelain beads by Fichter and glass beads made by Marcia Herson of Bedford.
The third award was for Fichter's display in the craft fair's Scupture Garden. “Diatomically Exposed” featured several large white porcelain sculptures Fichter calls sea pods.
Like the Fossil Dream Sequence #56, these pieces were inspired by the shells, bones and driftwood the artist has collected since she was a child.
