2-alarm fire 'rocks' old Concord Agway building

CONCORD — A two-alarm fire destroyed the vacant former Agway building on Constitution Avenue, Fire Battalion Chief Ken Folsom said.

The fire, which broke out shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, engulfed the building in a huge fireball. Fire crews were still putting out hot spots more than hour later, he said.

“It was rocking. It was what we call fully involved,” Folsom said. “It was pretty impressive from the highway.”

Folsom said the building, which was scheduled to be demolished anyway to make way for a new charity soup kitchen, was a total loss. No cause for the fire has been determined. Nobody was injured because of the blaze, he said.
