MILFORD — The struggle with searching for Lorinda White, the woman who walked away from her home on Sunday and hasn't been seen since, is figuring out where to start, according to Capt. Chris Nervik of the Milford Police Department.

White, 52, who has no history of mental health problems, began acting strangely last week, according to her boyfriend, William Pillsbury. She disappeared from the couple's home at 12 Ford St., Milford, on Aug. 3 and ended up in Maine at a bed and breakfast. She returned home around 2 a.m., disappeared again briefly in the morning, said Pillsbury, and then later on Sunday, while Pillsbury had a short nap, White left again, this time apparently barefoot, without her purse or her cellphone.

On Monday, Pillsbury and friends and family searched the area and made phone calls looking for White, and on Tuesday, police put the word out to the media that White was missing while the search by both police and volunteers continued. On Wednesday, police ramped up the search, bringing in a helicopter to conduct an aerial survey of the area, while officers on bikes and off-road vehicles took to the woods around Milford.

“The problem is we don't really have a good starting point,” said Nervik. “We don't know whether she went into the woods, or got a ride from someone. And we don't know if she just wandered off and got lost, or if she chose to walk away.”

Because White had ended up in Maine the first time she disappeared, it's possible she's no longer in the area.

“We're still treating this as a missing person's case,” said Nervik.

Nervik said there doesn't seem to be any indication of suspicious activity to explain White's disappearance.

On Thursday morning, Pillsbury said his girlfriend still hadn't been found.

“I don't have time for anything but looking for Lorinda,” he said. “I just need help finding her.”

White is described as being 5-foot-4, 140 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing blue cloth shorts, a pink tank top and a green baseball cap with her ponytail pulled through.

Anyone with information is asked to call Milford Police at 249-0630.
