Two arrested in Manchester drug bust after police dodge suspect's car
MANCHESTER — Narcotic investigators dodged a drug suspect's car as the man crashed into several parked cars trying to elude them Wednesday afternoon on the city's West Side, police said.
After the crash, police said Frank Burwen, 34, of 675 Bell St., refused to get out of his car and struggled with officers when they tried to remove him.
Ulitmately, he was “taken to the ground” and placed under arrest, according to a police press release.
His arrest was part of a multi-jurisdictional drug investigation involving Manchester's Special Investigation Unit, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Drug Task Force and the DEA.
Initially, task force members went to another residence at 286 Amory St. to search it. When they arrived, they saw resident Karl Vonhusen, 60, leaving the building and arrested him on four counts of sale of a controlled drug.
Police said they recovered an undisclosed amount of cash and several, yet to be identified, pills. He was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail. Vonhusen may face additional charges once the pills are identified, police said.
He is to be arraigned Aug. 31 in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District.
Task force members then received information that Burwen was about to make a large Oxycodone delivery on the West Side. Police did not disclose the location in the press release.
Police said agents watched as Burwen left his Bell Street residence and drove to the location where the delivery was to take place. Once he parked, agents approached him, identified themselves as law enforcement and attempted to arrest him. Police said Burwen stepped on the gas pedal, striking several parked cars and sending agents scurrying for safety.
After the crash, police said Burwen refused to get out of his car and they had to physically remove him.
Police said they found 180 30-milligram Oxycodone pills on him and recovered another 996 suspected Oxycodone pills in his apartment, along with a handgun. Each pill sells for $30 on the street, so 1,176 pills would sell for a little more than $35,000, according to Sgt. Craig Rousseau.
Inside the residence, investigators said they discovered a woman with whom Burwen was barred from having contact because of a restraining order.
Burwen is charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled drug, two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled drug, felony reckless conduct, resisting arrest, stalking and violating a domestic violence petition.
What's next: He was ordered detained on $50,000 cash-only bail, with a probable cause hearing Aug. 23 in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester District.
