GILFORD – A man known to local police as a “transient” was arrested after he allegedly threatened the life of any Laconia police officer or anyone else he saw late Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Bernard Huard, 54, of no specific address, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. at 23 Liscomb Circle, Unit 12, in Gilford after he allegedly threatening to kill “a Laconia Police Officer and anyone else that he comes in contact with,” according to a Gilford police press release.

He was located by Gilford police and arrested “after a brief struggle,” police said.

Huard has been charged with criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, a felony punishable by 3½ to 7 years in prison, and with resisting arrest or detention.

There will be further charges against him by Laconia authorities, Gilford police said.

Police said he did not have any firearms in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Laconia police had issued a “be on the lookout” alert through regional police dispatchers for Huard just prior to his arrest, saying he was possibly armed and dangerous and made threats against law enforcement officers.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in Huard’s alleged threats.

Police listed Laconia Cardiology at 369 Hounsell Ave. Unit 5, in Gilford as a location in the press release, but did not specify the significance of that address.

Huard is being held at Lakes Region General Hospital for evaluation, police said.

Assisting in the arrests were Gilford police Officer Kevin Baron, Sgt. Dustin H. Parent, Capt. Matthew Canfield, Officer Ben Black, and Capt. William Clary.
