Danville man admits to drug, weapons possession in drug probe
BRENTWOOD — A Danville man pleaded guilty Monday to drug and weapons charges in a case that led investigators to a safety deposit box at a Plaistow bank containing $410,000 — money that federal prosecutors hope to seize.
John Bouraphael, 32, of 67A Cobbler’s Ridge Road admitted to selling marijuana and possessing oxycodone pills and marijuana in mason jars. He also admitted to possessing several firearms that he wasn’t allowed to have because he’s a convicted felon.
Bouraphael was expected to face trial next month on charges stemming from his arrest last December following a multi-year drug investigation by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department’s Narcotic’s Task Force and Danville and Plaistow police.
Bouraphael pleaded guilty to one count of sale of a controlled drug (1.57 grams of marijuana), possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute (just over 4 ounces of marijuana), possession of a controlled drug (79 oxycodone pills), and five counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 15 at 9 a.m.
Assistant Rockingham County Attorney Michael Zaino asked that Bouraphael be sentenced to 15 months to four years on the drug charges and be given a suspended two- to four-year sentence on the weapons charges.
He could also face a $500 fine.
Bouraphael has a criminal record in New Hampshire and Massachusetts that includes a drug conviction, thefts, simple assault, shoplifting, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property, Zaino said.
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors are still eyeing the $410,000 found in Bouraphael’s security box at People’s United Bank in Plaistow, along with his jewelry collection, rare coins, rubies, and $5,500 in cash found at his home. They want to seize the items through a civil forfeiture request in federal court but agreed to hold off until the criminal charges are resolved. Bouraphael has maintained that he obtained the money and other items legitimately and not through drug sales.
