Rock Cats edge Fisher Cats
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell 8-0 at New Britain on Wednesday in a game that was cut short by thunderstorms.
The loss was the third in four games at New Britain (Conn.) and left the Fisher Cats with a 38-60 record and 2-7 mark on a nine-game road trip after the All-Star break.
New Hampshire is home tonight at 7:05 when the Portland Sea Dogs visit Northeast Delta Dental Stadium for the first of a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox affiliate.
New Britain started the scoring against New Hampshire starter Deck McGuire in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run double from Chris Colabello.
The Rock Cats capitalized on a pair of Fisher Cats errors to score four unearned runs in the fourth frame. Another two runs in the fifth made it 8-0 before McGuire (4-10) left the game.
The game was called off in the bottom of the sixth when the severe storms rolled through.
Rock Cats starter David Bromberg (2-1) pitched six innings, allowing two hits and working around three walks. Bromberg struck out two and retired the final eight hitters before the rains came.
Mike McDade and Kevin Howard accounted for the Fisher Cats’ two hits (both singles).
Ryan Goins and Jake Marisnick were both hitless, ending their respective four-game hitting streaks.
Tonight’s game with Portland will feature post-game fireworks and is also Goodwill Night where fans can donate gently used clothing or household items to Goodwill and receive a complimentary ticket to a future Fisher Cats game.
Thursday night’s pitching match-up features Fisher Cats righthander Chad Jenkins (4-9, 5.55) taking on Portland righty Stolmy Pimentel (3-4, 5.37).
