MANCHESTER — Alderman Russ Ouellette plans to meet with police next week to discuss the investigation into an assault claim against the city official, his attorney said Friday.

No charges have been filed against Ouellette, who represents Manchester's 11th Ward.

Police say a woman reported Ouellette assaulted her, but they have not elaborated about what Ouellette is accused of doing.

Attorney Jim Rosenberg said he spoke with detectives Friday and wanted to make it clear his client would cooperate fully and openly in the interest of clearing up the matter.

“We really don't know what's been reported to the police,” Rosenberg said. “Until we do, we just have our hands tied as to how to discuss the situation.”

Police Chief Dave Mara confirmed there was an investigation Thursday night into an alleged assault and that city detectives would turn over what they find to the Hillsborough County Attorney's office.

Rosenberg said his discussions Friday were with police detectives, who planned to meet with Ouellette next week.

Through his lawyer, Ouellette said he was being falsely accused of something, although nobody will say what. Rosenberg said his client has not been told yet who made the claim.

“There was some sort of alleged assault reported to police. That allegation is false, phony and fictitious,” Rosenberg said. “Mr. Ouellette flatly denies any claim of wrongdoing whatsoever.”

Ouellette was a member of the city school board committee before being elected to the Board of Aldermen in 2007. He was reelected last fall and is chairman of the Public Safety, Health and Traffic Committee.
