Sobriety checkpoint set for Manchester next week

MANCHESTER — Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the city Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21, as part of the department’s efforts to combat the problem of people driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The department obtained approval for the checkpoint from Hillsborough County Superior Court North.

Chief David Mara periodically seeks court permission for the checkpoints as part of the department’s effort to reduce the incidence of impaired driving.

The sobriety checkpoint program, approved by the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, provides federal funds to support the checkpoints, which are conducted at unannounced locations by Manchester Police officers.
