MacGregor Park concert series set to begin next week
DERRY — The Parks and Recreation Department kicks off its summer concert series at MacGregor Park on Tuesday, July 10, with renowned Beatles cover band BeatleJuice.
The Tuesday and Thursday evening concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. at the park.
BeatleJuice is made up of some of New England's most notable musicians, including members who have played with Brad Delp of Boston and Ben Orr of the Cars, among others, according to Craig Yonge of the Parks and Recreation Department.
“For 15 years, the members have turned their musical and technical abilities towards recreating the full gamut of the Beatles music,” said Yonge. The band's set runs from early rockers such as “All My Loving” through later, more orchestrated songs like “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “I Am the Walrus.”
On Thursday, July 12, the concert series shifts gear with Mama Kicks, led by singer and guitarist Lisa Guyer and keyboardist Gardner Berry, bringing their brand of dance music to the stage.
The following week brings Pony Express on Tuesday, July 17, and The Reminisants on Thursday, July 19.
Pony Express is one of the area's top country bands and is led by singer Karen Morgan.
“Performing across New England for more than 10 years, Pony Express has gained national attention, recognition and a huge following,” said Yonge.
The Reminisants have been entertaining audiences with its wide range of dance music since 1973.
“They have performed with many of the legends of rock and roll, such as The Beach Boys, Felix Cavaliere and his Rascals, and The Crystals,” said Yonge. “The band is proud of their reputation as one of Boston's most enduring and consistent stage acts.”
Other bands appearing during the summer concert series include White Mountain Bluegrass, Souled Out Showband, Big 80s, the Josh Logan Trio, Fried Cactus, and The Mirage Band.
