Small fire Saturday at Manchester Central High School

MANCHESTER — A box placed on a stove caused a small fire at Manchester Central High School Saturday morning, District Fire Chief Jim Michael said.

Michael said a member of a cleaning crew placed the box on the stove on the building’s third floor, inadvertently turning on burner. The box ignited about 9 a.m. Saturday, but the school’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire quickly, he said.

The school suffered about $3,000 to $4,000 worth of water damage, as water dripped into the second floor library, Michael said. The water had been cleaned up by Saturday afternoon, he said.
