Date night in Nashua: City features movies and dining

NASHUA — When they put their noggins together, Chris Williams and Chris Malloy are a dynamic team. Williams, head of Nashua's Chamber of Commerce, and Malloy, owner of Community Events production company, were looking for a way to bring a fun event to downtown Nashua — and they wanted to do it in a way that would promote films and local businesses.

What they landed on was as simple as dinner and a movie — with a twist.

The duo devised Dinner and a Movie, a Wednesday night summer series of films that play in the center of the city, in the street and under the stars.

“It's an opportunity to help increase the vibrancy for downtown,” said Williams. “We simply wanted to be something that helps further energize downtown Nashua, and attract visitors and residents to come out and enjoy Wednesday evenings with us on Main Street.”

At first they planned on just one movie night.

“But we loved the idea so much we decided to do it six times over the summer rather than just once,” Williams said.

Dinner and a Movie will take place very other Wednesday until Aug. 22.

The venue is at the intersection of East Pearl and Main Street, with East Pearl closed to traffic. It sits next to restaurants Stella Blu and Villa Banca, which will alternate to offer food and drinks.

On July 11, The Princess Bride will be featured, with food from Stella Blu. On July 25, it's the Rocky Horror Picture Show, (Villa Banca); on Aug. 8, Anchorman, (Stella Blu); and on Aug. 22, the Wizard of Oz , (Villa Banca), will close the series.

Downtown Nashua has a great restaurant scene, Williams said, and when most people think of it, they think of the great restaurants and dining options.

“We love that, but what we want to do is provide people something to do in addition to visiting our restaurants,” Williams said.

Tickets are $10 and are available at nashuamovies.com. Rain dates are in place for each of the showings and can be found on the website.

Shows begin at dusk and end around 10:45.
