Little League: Bedford’s Lavigne hits 5 HRs; Goffstown no-hits Derry
Grant Lavigne had the game of his life, homering five times in five at-bats as Bedford beat host Pelham, 29-4 (four innings) in District I Little League all-star action Friday night. Bedford is 2-0.
Lavigne hit for the “cycle” of homers (plus one), finishing with 12 RBIs. Connor Collins went 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBIs, and Joe Quintal went 3-for-3 with a homer. Brennan Hughes added to the fire with three hits and two RBIs. Tim Saltzman and Collins combined to shut down Pelham (1-1).
Goffstown 6, Derry 0
Ethan Skinner and Cody Morel combined for a no-hitter as the Goffstown Little League all-star team beat Derry in its first game of the District I tournament at Villa Augustina Field on Friday.
Skinner pitched the first 5 1/3 innings before having to be pulled because he reached his pitch limit. Morel then came on in the sixth inning to get the final two outs.
Skinner struck out 11 and walked three, while Morel fanned two and walked one.
Goffstown (1-0), the defending state champs, scored two runs in the second inning and then opened things up with four runs in the fifth. Matt Woodward’s two-run homer was the highlight of that inning. Woodward and Noah Charron had two hits each.
Derry is 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament. Goffstown plays at Bedford (2-0) on Monday.
