MANCHESTER — Health insurers said they’ll continue to work to implement the Affordable Care Act now that the Supreme Court has upheld its constitutionality.
“MVP is committed to continuing to work with policy-makers on both sides of the aisle to address the problems of escalating health care costs and finding effective solutions that encourage universal coverage, promote affordability and improve consumers’ access to high-quality care,” MVP Health Care President and CEO David Oliker said.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield said in a statement: “The road to implementing health care reform will be a challenge; however, we look forward to working constructively with policy-makers and other key stakeholders to build a health care delivery system that provides security and affordability to all Americans.”
Cigna Healthcare issued the following statement: “Cigna is committed to promoting greater dialogue and collaboration among customers, physicians, and business and policy leaders to help provide peace of mind and better address the health needs of our customers.”
Cigna also set up a dedicated team to answer questions about the Supreme Court ruling at its call center, 1-800-Cigna-24.
“Cigna believes it is incumbent on all of us to find common purpose and to work for a health care system that improves patient outcomes, removes costly waste and ensures every American has quality, affordable health care and the opportunity to maintain continuous health care coverage,” the firm said.
Anthem cited its efforts to improve care delivery, such as partnerships with primary care physicians; support from case managers and health coaches to help people manage their conditions and improve their wellbeing; and leveraging IBM-Watson technology to help members and physicians make decisions.
MVP said it supports many of the goals of the ACA, such as making sure all Americans have meaningful, affordable health coverage and access to high-quality health care. However, MVP continued to call for repeal of the Small-Business Health Insurance Tax.
“It is counterproductive to the goals of health care reform as it will significantly increase the cost of health care,” MVP said.
