Four Hampton teens indicted in theft

BRENTWOOD — Four Hampton teenagers have been indicted for breaking into a home and stealing an Xbox game console, a computer and several games that were later pawned, according to prosecutors.
The suspects broke into the home on Dec. 11 on Slate Run Road in North Hampton, and attempted to break into the same home days later on Dec. 20, according to indictments.
A grand jury returned felony indictments against, Jordan Welch, 17, Scott Andrews, 18, Alfonso Medina, 19, and George Serpis, 18, all from Hampton.
The indictments were the result of a two-month investigation by North Hampton police.
Police were called to the home on Slate Run Road on Dec. 20 for the report of a prowler outside the house.
Two suspects were chased from the house on Dec. 20. They ran to a car parked outside the 180 Restaurant on 180 Lafayette Road, according to police.
Police received a tip that the car belonged to Serpis, who is charged with accomplice to burglary for allegedly acting as a lookout during the break-in and attempted burglary, court documents say.
That information helped police in identifying the three other suspects.
Serpis admitted to police during a Jan. 11 interview that he had driven Medina, Welch and Andrews to the home, “to get some weed,” a police affidavit says. Medina told police in a separate interview that another suspect told him, “a lot of drugs” were in the home, the affidavit says.
The suspects went looking for the drugs, according to Medina’s interview with police, but when none were found, Andrews took the Xbox console and other valuables instead. The second break-in was to steal something that was spotted, but not taken during the first burglary, according to police.
The stolen items were pawned at the Hawk Shop in Portsmouth and to GameStop in the Fox Run Mall in Newington, the affidavit says.
Welch was indicted on two counts of accomplice to burglary. Andrews was indicted for burglary and attempted burglary. Medina was indicted for attempted burglary and accomplice to burglary.
WHAT’S NEXT: All four suspects are scheduled for arraignment June 28 in Rockingham County Superior Court.
