CONCORD – State Liquor Commission member Mark Bodi has resigned from the three-person panel.

In a letter submitted to the Governor and Executive Council, Bodi wrote that he intends to return to the private sector.

“New business opportunities in the marketing and national wine and spirits industry, as well as my Association activities present an irresistible opportunity for me to transition back to private life,” Bodi wrote.

Bodi was recently named chairman of the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association.

The council voted unanimously to accept the resignation at its meeting Wednesday.

The Liquor Commission is responsible for overseeing the sale and distribution of alcohol in the state.

Bodi, who had served as chairman of the commission, was at the center of a controversy in 2010 when the council voted to reprimand but not remove him for involving himself in the investigation of a bar owner at the request of a state lawmaker who was a friend of the owner.

Bodi was paid $91,000 in 2011.
