Police seek to extradite man in connection with burglaries
LEBANON — Local police are seeking to extradite a man arrested in Massachusetts this week.
Richard Morrell, 40, of Newburyport, Mass., was arrested by Bay State police for receiving stolen property in connection to three Lebanon burglaries and is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
On Monday, an Eastman Hill Road woman reported a man had knocked on her door saying he was looking for an RV park because he was going camping. She thought it odd because he didn't have an RV, police said.
She reported the incident to police with a description and plate number of the vehicle he was driving.
A short time later another resident of Eastman Hill Road reported spare change had been taken from their home. Next, a burglary was reported at a Manchester Drive home. The resident said jewelry, spare change and other small items had been taken.
In the evening, a third daytime burglary was reported at a Dartmouth College Highway home. That incident also included missing jewelry and other small items.
Police tracked down the license plate and found it was registered to a Newburyport, Mass., resident and then later learned the vehicle is co-owned by Morrell.
The Enfield police, which were also investigating a home burglary, assisted in Newburyport with Lebanon police.
“It was learned he had been driving the vehicle for the day in question. Morrell had an extensive criminal record, including convictions for burglaries in Florida, New York and Vermont,” Lebanon police said in a press release on Thursday.
Police searched his home and business, a boutique in Newburyport, and found some of the stolen items.
Other items were found at a pawn shop in Hampton and in a South Boston, Mass., home.
Lebanon police have issued a warrant for his arrest for three counts of burglary.
