KEENE - A state hearing on misconduct allegations against a local mental health counselor accused of trying to sexually assault a sleeping adolescent girl has been continued.

The state Board of Mental Health Practice last week temporarily suspended the license of Jeffrey Spiegler, 48, of Wheelock St., after he was arrested by police on a felony charge of falsifying physical evidence, and two misdemeanor counts of attempted sexual assault and violation of privacy.

The board set a hearing for Friday for Spiegler on misconduct allegations but now has continued it to a yet-unscheduled date.

Spiegler was arrested after the state Division for Children, Youth & Families contacted police about an adolescent girl who was a possible victim of sexual abuse.

He is accused of entering the girl’s bedroom in June and rubbing her thigh while she was sleeping, the board said.

He also is accused of using a cell phone to videotape her while she showered. Spiegler turned over his cell phone to police when they asked for it, but he claimed his laptop had been stolen. He later acknowledged throwing the laptop in a pond when he learned police had a warrant for it, the board wrote.

“He also acknowledged videotaping this adolescent, and he explained that he found her to be sexually arousing,” the board wrote.
