MONT VERNON — After a two-hour standoff with police, a local man was arrested Monday night for allegedly pointing a handgun at his girlfriend and making numerous threats.

Police responded to the home of Troy Gagnon, 25, of 61 Mason Road, around 7:30 p.m. after a woman contacted authorities to report that Gagnon allegedly pointed a firearm at her. She was able to escape uninjured, according to Sgt. Aaron Daigneault of the Mont Vernon Police Department.

Police said Gagnon made numerous threats regarding what would happen if the girlfriend — who authorities did not identify — or police came back to the residence. Daigneault explained that police had checked on Gagnon’s welfare prior to returning to his home a second time for the reported gun incident.

After a two-hour standoff with police, Gagnon ended up exiting the home on his own, said police.

He has been charged with one count of felony criminal threatening, and police are investigating the possibility of additional charges since threats were allegedly made against himself, his girlfriend and law enforcement.

Authorities seized one handgun and about four long firearms after the standoff, according to Daigneault.

Gagnon was arraigned at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division, Tuesday and was held on $10,000 cash bail pending an upcoming probable cause hearing.

Daigneault said local police are familiar with Gagnon, as this was Gagnon’s second arrest involving firearms. Two years ago, he pleaded guilty to reckless conduct for firing a shotgun toward his neighbor’s home. At the time, he told police he was teaching his then-girlfriend how to shoot a 20-gauge shotgun.

Gagnon spend three days in jail after that shooting and was ordered to pay a fine and write an apology letter to the neighbor. He also relinquished ownership of the firearm involved in that shooting.

Police stressed Tuesday the woman was not the same woman involved in Monday’s incident.
