NH State Police: Conn. woman arrested after two-state police pursuit
CLARKSVILLE - A Connecticut woman is being held on $25,000 cash bail on numerous charges after she led police in a two-state car chase and assaulted an officer, police said.
The incident began about 7 a.m. Saturday when April Miller, 37, of Manchester, Conn. arrived unannounced at a Clarksville Pond Road residence. The homeowner did not know Miller but had a brief conversation with her before she drove off.
The homeowner called police and gave them a description of Miller and her car. A short time later, police said Miller was involved in a single car crash on Clarksville Pone Road. Her vehicle was pulled out by a passerby and she continued on without filing a report, according to a press release issued by state police.
Colebrook police officer Garth Hurlbert later spotted Miller's car speeding through downtown Colebrook.
Police said she refused to stop for Hurlbert who pursued her south on Route 3 through Colebrook and into Columbia. Police said she stopped briefly on Route 3 in Columbia but as Hurlbert attempted to box in her car, she struck his cruiser, damaging both vehicles.
She then continued on heading south on Route 3.
Miller's car was spotted again heading into North Stratford, Vt. and the U.S. Border Patrol was notified. A short time later, U.S. Border Patrol units saw her car in Norton, Vt. However, police said Miller headed back to New Hampshire and was eventually stopped on Route 3 in West Stewartstown and detained by the border patrol and Essex County, Vt. Sheriff's Department.
State police trooper Corey Lord of Troop F transported Miller to the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for a medical evaluation. While there, police said Miller became disruptive and combative and was brought to the Colebrook Police Department.
She is charged with simple assault on a police officer, reckless conduct, conduct after an accident, disobeying an officer and disorderly conduct. She is being held on $25,000 cash bail at the Grafton County jail.
What's next:Miller will be arraigned Monday in 1st Circuit Court, Colebrook District.
