'Girl of the Year' honored in Concord
CONCORD — Girls Inc. Concord has named Grace Milliken ”Girl of the Year” for Girls Inc. of Concord.
The Girl of the Year is selected from among all the girls voted as a “Girl of the Month” during the year, and is interviewed by a panel of local businesswomen. The Girl of the Year must demonstrate leadership qualities and an understanding of the Girls Inc. motto, “Strong, Smart and Bold.”
Milliken, who has been attending Girls Inc.for five years, impressed the panelists with her poise and kindness. She talked about trying to help other girls work through problems and her mother being her role model because she “works hard and volunteers.”
Advocacy Council member Rebecca Kinhan said, “Grace truly embodies the spirit of Girls Inc. and possesses the qualities that the program strives to instill in the girls every day.”
Along with the honor and recognition of being named Girl of the Year, Milliken will become the spokeswoman for the Concord Girls Inc. center, accompanying Regional Director Karen Billings on speaking engagements as well as attending the national Girls Inc. conference in New York City.
