Keene mental health counselor faces several charges
KEENE — A mental health counselor has been arrested by police for attempted sexual assault, police said Thursday.
Jeffrey Spiegler, 48, of Wheelock Street, Keene, was charged with felony level falsifying physical evidence, as well as two misdemeanors, attempted sexual assault and violation of privacy.
“As a result of Jeffrey Spiegler being a licensed clinical mental health counselor, the New Hampshire Board of Mental Health Practice has been notified,” police said in a press release Thursday.
Police said they were notified Wednesday by the Division for Children, Youth & Families about an adolescent female child who was a possible victim of sexual abuse.
As part of the police investigation, a search warrant was applied for and approved by the court authorizing the seizure and examination of a cell phone and laptop belonging to Spiegler. The search warrant was executed Wednesday, with police seizure of both his cell phone and laptop.
Because the laptop was found hidden in a pond, Spiegler was charged with the felony falsifying physical evidence.
Spiegler was released on $10,000 personal recognizance.
The case remains under investigation by the Keene Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
Witnesses or people with further information are asked to call the Keene Police Department at 357-9820 and ask for Detective Robert Collinsworth or Detective Donald Lundin.
