TO RECAP a wild weekend with the Fisher Cats, Trenton outfielder Shane Brown was the winning pitcher in a 15-inning loss Saturday night. That game followed a rain-interrupted 14-inning loss at Trenton.

After 29 innings and two painful outcomes at Waterfront Park, the Fisher Cats responded with a character-defining comeback on Sunday, rallying for five runs in the ninth inning to beat the Thunder, 8-4. The baby Blue Jays, hoping to build on that momentum and return home with new life, lost 10-7 in Monday’s matinee as starting pitcher Chad Jenkins gave up eight earned runs.

It all adds up to last place for New Hampshire (21-34), which opens a six-game homestand tonight against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (26-31), a rematch of the 2011 Eastern League Championship Series. Fisher Cats righty Joel Carreno (1-2, 4.08 ERA), one of the most valuable pitchers on last year’s staff, takes the mound against San Francisco Giants farmhand Craig Westcott (5-4, 4.10 ERA) at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

The eventful weekend’s defining moments — which sum up New Hampshire’s struggles this season — came in the 15th inning on Saturday night. The Fisher Cats loaded the bases against Trenton’s emergency reliever, Brown, but failed to cash in as Mark Sobolewski struck out and Brian Jeroloman popped out to left field.

FISHER NOTES: Sean Ochinko hit a two-run homer and Brian Bocock and Justin Jackson each had three hits in Monday’s loss at Trenton. Fisher Cats first baseman Mike McDade had an 11-game hitting streak snapped at Trenton ... Fisher Cats reliever Danny Farquhar was taken off Toronto’s 40-man roster and designated for assignment Monday. Righty Yohan Pino was promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas ... Fisher Cats lefty Brett Cecil, who may be returning to the Blue Jays soon, has made four consecutive strong starts. Fisher Cats infielders Ryan Goins (.315) and McDade (.312) are among top five EL leaders in batting.

Throughout the minors, only the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League have a worse home record (7-18, .280) than New Hampshire (8-19, .296) ... Richmond hitting coach Ken Joyce, who served as Fisher Cats hitting coach for two seasons, returns to his old stomping grounds tonight. Joyce served as pitcher during the 2007 Eastern League Home Run Derby won by Travis Snider.

DRAFT DAY: Several players in the Northeast-10 Conference have their names on draft boards entering Day 2 of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft, which continues with rounds 2-15 today. Rounds 16-40 will be held Wednesday. Southern New Hampshire University All-America lefty Tim Flight, named Division II Pitcher of the Year by two major associations, is expected to be drafted. On Monday, Flight finished runner-up in voting for the Tino Martinez Award, given to the most outstanding player in Division II college baseball. SNHU righty Brad Monroe from Winnacunnet Regional of Hampton has also caught the interest of pro scouts.

Lefty John Healy and infielder Robert Kelly of St. Anselm College were invited to pre-draft workouts by the Mets and Reds. The 6-foot-4 Healy could be a late-round steal.

“Scouts like the fact he has room to grow and a lot more in the tank. He’ll add a lot more muscle and velocity as a pro,” St. Anselm pitching coach Nick Cenatiempo said.

Kelly has spent two days with the Mets, including a pre-draft workout at Citi Field, where he met manager Terry Collins. Other NE-10 draft prospects include Franklin Pierce University lefty Vladimir Camacho and righty Ryan Thompson. A year ago, Thompson was drafted in the 36th round by the Yankees and did not sign. The Souhegan of Amherst product got off to a slow start this season before finishing with a 5-2 record, including one complete game, while posting a 3.47 ERA.
